Texas, the Scottish rock band who’ve come good from Glasgow, becoming a global phenomenon in the music industry,. Formed in 1986 with their debut album ‘Southside’ having been released in 1989, Texas erupted upon the music scene with their brand of rock and melody. The iconic ‘I Don't Want a Lover’ has sold more than two million copies worldwide.
Bristol Sounds, the ever popular summer festival, formed a great show piece for the band as they came to the West Country. The crowds chanted in anticipation as they waited for Texas, the Friday night headliners. Sharlene was full of energy as she engaged with the crowd, moving around the stage as the band launched into that very debut single ‘I Don't Want a Lover’ being tonight’s debut track too.
They then ran through the other hits from the albums, moving through the set list. A large screen at the back of the stage was emblazoned with images of past hits, framing Sharlene and the band with their own many past glories. Sharlene encouraged the fans, stretching across the generations, to move and dance and enter into the spirit of the night.
Of course it was hearing, more than seeing the hits that the masses wanted and they were not dissatisfied ‘Halo’, ‘In Our Lifetime’ and ‘Summer Son’ getting a rapturous response with the crowd singing back every word. It didn’t stop there either ‘Black Eyed Boy’ and ‘Say What You Want’ closing the main set before the anticipation built again for the encore.
When you’ve been doing it this long you know how to hold onto your crowds ‘Tired of Being Alone’ opening up the encore. Talking of a sing along, they saved one of the biggest for the ending with their now familiar cover of ‘ Suspicious Minds’ bring it all together. This year’s Bristol Sounds is turning into a classic year and we’re only halfway through it.
